Is it normal for running shoes to feel tight around mid sole (?) area?

I bought a pair of Asics Jolt and Asics Gel Excite 6 right before Covid started, and I have been wearing the Asics Gel Excite 6 for about 2 to 3 years now. While I'm shopping for shoes, I noticed that even for the same shoe size, the area around the midsole feels a lot tighter with today's running shoes than the ones I have been accustomed to in the past. Is this normal? Or is this a sign that I'm looking at the wrong sizes or models?
