Shoe spray

I bought some Nikwax waterproofed for fabric and leather shoes.

I wanted to spray my Nike p6000 to product them from damage – they’re new. I’m reading the bottle and it says shoes be wet to apply the spray? Is this necessary as waiting for shoes to dry is painful and is this a good thing to use on these shoes
